Consortium

SAFphyre brings together seven leading research and industry partners from across Europe, combining expertise in cell science, system integration, demonstration, techno-economic analysis, and project coordination.

TNO

TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) is an independent Dutch research organisation working across energy, industry, and society, with deep expertise in solid oxide cell manufacturing, testing, and co-electrolysis system integration. In SAFphyre, TNO coordinates the consortium and leads the harmonisation of cell and stack testing protocols.

Topsoe

Topsoe is a global leader in technologies for the energy transition, headquartered in Denmark, with deep expertise in catalysis and solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) manufacturing. In SAFphyre, Topsoe supplies the state-of-the-art SOEC cells used in the 25 kWe demonstrator and co-leads the integrated demonstration work package.

Sasol

Sasol is a global chemicals and energy company headquartered in South Africa, operating the world’s largest Fischer-Tropsch (FT) plant and bringing decades of industrial FT catalyst and process expertise. In SAFphyre, Sasol’s FT catalyst and process expertise inform the design and operation of the integrated demonstrator.

CEA

CEA (the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) is a major French public research organisation specialising in materials science and energy technologies, with established expertise in multi-scale, multi-physics modelling of electrochemical cells. In SAFphyre, CEA leads cell-level modelling and short-stack durability testing, translating atomic-scale material behaviour into next-generation co-SOE cell design recommendations.

EPFL

EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) is one of Europe’s leading institutes of science and technology, based in Switzerland, with established expertise in system simulation, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle assessment. In SAFphyre, EPFL leads use case definition, process simulation, and the techno-economic and environmental assessment of the co-SOE + Fischer-Tropsch pathway.

Aarhus University

Aarhus University is one of Denmark’s leading research universities, with established expertise in energy systems and process engineering. In SAFphyre, Aarhus University operates the integrated co-SOE and Fischer-Tropsch demonstrator, providing the experimental validation that connects the consortium’s models to real-world operating data.

Linq Consulting & Management

Linq Consulting & Management is an EU grant funding management and communications consultancy specializing in Horizon Europe and other EU funding programs. Linq brings extensive expertise in the coordination of collaborative research projects, communication of project results to broad stakeholder groups, management of IP, and assessment of business cases and commercial opportunities.
